Community planting

A Heart for Duns is actively supporting a local initiative to set up and maintain community planting schemes in the town’s park and streets. The project aims to involve people of all ages in active gardening.

A grant of £7,150 from Awards for All in December 2016 enabled the community planting project team to buy a polytunnel, a shed and various gardening tools.

We now have our ‘Billy Bowser’ for watering the plants around town but he is a versatile machine and has a handsome trailer. For a small (or large!) donation toward our annual insurance costs, he can be used for helping to move items within Duns. If you would like a driver to help with a trip to the recycling centre or to another house in Duns please contact Candy by email (billybowserAHFD@gmail.com) or call Emma at the Volunteer Hall on 01361 884935 (office staff work part time but will respond to any messages left as soon as possible).

The short video below shows some of the recent work transforming Duns.

Currently the team is working on planting for the beds in Castle Street / Newtown Street. This planting is being made possible through generous sponsorship totalling £350 from seven local businesses:
Zing Health & Beauty     JD Clark & Allan     George F White     Noel Johnston Opticians      Richard Amos Ltd      J E Douglas & Sons Ltd      Bond Training Ltd

The Duns community planting team is also grateful to the following for funding support:
