Directed and written by Bill Forsyth, and starring Peter Riegert, Denis Lawson, Fulton Mackay and Burt Lancaster, the film is about an American oil company representative sent to the fictional village of Ferness on the west coast of Scotland to purchase the town and surrounding property for his company. Actual locations used included Pennan on the Aberdeenshire coast together with the beaches of Morar and Arisaig. Bill Forsyth won the BAFTA for Best Director and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits was nominated for Best Film Music. Run time 106 mins. Mozart’s Requiem

A Heart for Duns is organising a ‘Come and Sing’ of Mozart’s Requiem. The weekend will follow the format of our previous choral weekends, with all-day rehearsals on Saturday 16 November, and an afternoon rehearsal and evening performance on Sunday 17 November. For those who haven’t sung the Requiem before, we are planning two optional evening rehearsals on Wednesdays 6 and 13 November. Music will be provided. The rehearsals and concert will be held in the Volunteer Hall, Duns.

Kathy Baird will present ‘Moths and Butterflies’. U3A monthly open meetings are free for everyone, both members and non-members; for the 2019/20 season, these meetings will be on the third Tuesday of every month.
